We didn't start with a fabric collection. We started with two decades of trial and error.

Twenty years of ​making garments and ​naturally dyeing ​a​ wide range of organic fabrics through Gaia Conceptions. Learning which fabrics take natural dyes without fighting it. Which weights drape the way​ our patterns were designed ​too.​ Which textures feel right against skin after they've been through a dye bath. Which fabrics were grown organically with fair labor.

Some fabrics looked perfect on the bolt ​but didn't drape correctly. Some ​didn't take the dye consistently or were too unpredictable. We kept​ and tweaked what worked. Let go of what didn't.

What you see in our fabric collection now — the organic cotton​ and hemp blends, the different weights and textures — that's what survived the filter.

These are the fabrics that work with our patterns, that move the way they should, and that respond to natural dyes the way you want them to.

All of them come PFD — Prepared for Dye. Which means they​ are not treated with optical brighteners, softeners, or finishes that would block the dye from bonding​ and only need a wash and light scour before mordanting and dyeing. They're ready when you are.  

We're not trying to offer every fabric option that exists. We're offering the ones we trust to work — because we've already done the experimenting for you.
